The Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Power Generators, Ghana, Dr. Elikplim Agbetorgbor have refuted the statement by the Finance Minister that, the government has secured a debt restructuring agreement with the Independent Power Generators.
He said the last engagement with some of the Power Generators and government negotiating team happened in April, and since then no agreement on any terms has been reached.
” This is an issue of national interest and a very sensitive one of course. Sincerely, I expect the Honorable Minister for Finance to be accurate and honest in whatever feedback or information he gives to the public.
If you meet a section of the IPPs and agree on terms, it doesn’t mean that you have agreed with or deal with all the IPPs. You cannot generalise, it will interest you to know that in April, this year, some of the key IPPs have not been engaged in any discussion, and that means that we have not reached a deal with the negotiation, ” He said.
He added ” It is misleading and inaccurate to tell the public that you have a debt restructuring bill with the IPPs. Let’s find a sustainable solution to this matter.”
