Central regional leaders to meet NDC after Assin Central candidate’s removal
The Central Regional executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are scheduled to meet with the national leadership of the party to discuss the withdrawal of Nurein Shiabu Migyimah as the party’s Assin Central parliamentary candidate.
Migyimah was removed from his candidacy after being found guilty of immoral acts and anti-party activities.
Complaints were filed against Migyimah, leading the NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee to withdraw his candidacy immediately following thorough investigations and deliberations. He was accused of impregnating the wife of the party’s Assin Central General Secretary.
In a letter dated June 28, the Regional Functional Executive Committee informed the Assin Central chairman of the NDC about Migyimah’s withdrawal and his suspension for six months, pending adjudication by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.
The NDC national leadership, however, has raised concerns over the procedural propriety of the withdrawal.
On June 28, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Kwetey, summoned the Central Regional Chairman, citing that the action was taken without the approval of the National Executive Committee and violated articles 40, 41, 46, and 48 of the NDC constitution.
The regional chairman and the regional secretary have been requested to appear before the national leadership on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 2 pm to explain the unauthorized issuance of the withdrawal letter.
