Justin Timberlake arrested for driving while intoxicated in New York
Singer Justin Timberlake was arrested in New York for driving under the influence, according to officials from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
The incident occurred in Sag Harbor, a wealthy village in the Hamptons, a popular summer spot for celebrities.
Timberlake was charged after police stopped his grey BMW for traffic violations, including driving through a stop sign and failing to stay on the correct side of the road.
Officers noted his “bloodshot and glassy” eyes, along with the smell of alcohol on his breath.
He also performed poorly on sobriety tests and refused a breathalyser test.
The singer allegedly mentioned having one martini and following friends home when questioned by the officer.
He was released without bail but is scheduled to appear in court virtually on July 26.
His lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., stated that he will vigorously defend Timberlake and is currently in the discovery process with the District Attorney’s Office.
Timberlake, known for his music career and roles in films like The Social Network, has openly discussed seeking help for excessive drinking in the past.
In New York, penalties for driving while intoxicated can include jail time, fines, and license suspension.
Timberlake’s arrest comes amidst plans for a global tour and upcoming performances in Chicago and New York.
