Grammy award-winning producer The-Dream faces sexual battery allegations in lawsuit
Grammy-winning producer and songwriter The-Dream faces accusations of rape and sexual battery in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles.
The lawsuit, filed by former protégé Chanaaz Mangroe, alleges that The-Dream, born Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, forced her into sexual encounters, throttled her, filmed an intimate moment, and threatened to share it.
The-Dream, known for writing songs for top artists like Beyoncé and Rihanna, has denied these allegations.
In the lawsuit, Ms. Mangroe seeks damages for “lost wages” and “mental pain, anguish, and severe emotional distress.”
She claims The-Dream subjected her to violent sexual encounters, forced alcohol consumption, strangulation, and rape in various locations, including a movie theatre and a van.
She also alleges he made promises to advance her career, comparing her to Beyoncé and Rihanna.
Ms. Mangroe recalls The-Dream pressuring her for sex shortly after they met in 2015, claiming it was “part of the process.”
She describes being locked in a dark room and coerced into saying she loved him to stop the aggression. She hopes sharing her story will help others and prevent future abuse.
The-Dream, with eight Grammy Awards to his name, refutes the accusations, calling them “untrue and defamatory.”
He emphasizes his opposition to harassment and states he has always aimed to support others in their career aspirations.
