CETAG Prepares for Strike Action After Government Fails to Meet Ultimatum
The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of CETAG is gearing up to embark on an industrial action.
This comes after the May 31 ultimatum the association gave the government, demanding a resolution of their service conditions without any progress.
In a statement, the association cited frustration over the government’s delay in implementing the National Labor Commission’s Arbitral Award Orders conditions.
These demands include compensating each member with a one-month salary for additional duties performed in 2022.
Amongst other issues, in a letter to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, CETAG explained that the National Labour Commission was reluctant to trigger Section 172 of the Labour Act 2003, Act 651 to compel the employer to comply with the May 2, 2023, and 31 August 2023 orders and directives, even though the Union complied with the directive of the Commission to pull off its strike in August 2023.
The Association also accused the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Education Ministry of deliberately refusing to pay deserved members of CETAG a top-up of research allowance arrears arising from the 2023 conditions of service agreement signed with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission with approval from the Ministry of Finance in July 2023 with an ending date of December 31, 2024.
However, the statement did not highlight a specific date to embark on the strike.
