NPP refutes allegations by the NDC of ferrying underage individuals to voter registration sites
Controversy overshadowed the final day of the voter registration process in the Ashanti region, with accusations swirling about political parties influencing underage individuals to register.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) pointed fingers at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of ferrying minors to registration centers. In response, the NPP vehemently refuted these claims.
Observations by Citi News at various registration sites in Kumasi revealed instances of political parties transporting students to register, raising doubts about the integrity of the process.
The NDC’s Nhyiaeso Chairman, speaking to Citi News, voiced suspicions regarding the NPP’s actions, questioning why students were not officially released by school authorities earlier and why this occurred on the final day.
However, the NPP dismissed the allegations. Kennedy Mintah, the NPP Deputy Youth Organizer for the Manhyia North constituency, stated that he meticulously vetted students within the eligible age range, requesting their BECE certificates to verify their ages.
Mr. Mintah emphasized that the process was thorough and ensured compliance with age requirements. Despite the accusations, both parties expressed contentment with the overall conduct of the voter registration exercise.
