COPEC warns of Fuel Shortage amidst unresolved Tanker Drivers strike
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has issued a stern warning about a potential fuel shortage unless the concerns raised by the striking Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union are promptly addressed.
COPEC emphasizes that if the authorities fail to resolve the drivers’ grievances, there could be severe repercussions.
The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union commenced an indefinite strike on Tuesday, May 21, seeking improved working conditions.
In response to the drivers’ action, Duncan Amoah, the Executive Secretary of COPEC, expressed concern, stating that if the strike continues for 72 hours, consumers might face long queues at fuel stations.
He highlighted the critical role of tanker drivers in fuel supply and cautioned that if the strike persists, fuel availability at stations could diminish, leading to potential shortages.
