A woman in her twenties has died following a fall from the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare.

According to reports from Irish broadcaster RTÉ, the woman was visiting the tourist spot with three companions when the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Garda (Irish police) informed BBC News NI that authorities and emergency services responded to reports of the incident at the Cliffs of Moher.

The Irish Coast Guard was alerted around 13:20 local time and initiated a search operation.

Rescue efforts involved the deployment of the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter Rescue 115.

Following an extensive search, the woman was located by the rescue helicopter, and the RNLI lifeboat crew from the Aran Islands successfully retrieved her body after 15:00.

The Cliffs of Moher remain one of Ireland’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting approximately 1.5 million visitors annually.

This tragic incident echoes a similar event in 2019 when a man lost his life after falling from the cliffs while attempting to take a photograph.
