Minority labels govt efforts to rename Ho Technical University after Ephraim Amu as illegal
The Minority in Parliament has condemned the government’s attempt to rename Ho Technical University after Ghanaian composer Ephraim Amu, calling it illegal.
The decision, announced in February 2018, has faced criticism for lack of consultation, particularly from the Asogli State Council.
Peter Nortsu Kotoe, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee and MP for Akatsi North, criticized the government for not presenting a bill to officially change the university’s name, citing legal protocols.
The Asogli State Chiefs strongly opposed the proposed renaming, expressing disappointment with the government and the university’s governing council for not consulting key stakeholders, including the Asogli State Council, before making the decision.
The Asogli State Council labelled the decision to rename the Ho Technical University as regrettable, ill-conceived, and disrespectful, as it failed to consider the perspectives of those directly affected.
