Asah-Asante forecasts that the recent power outages will affect NPP in the 2024 elections

Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a Senior Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, suggests that the recent sporadic power outages will impact the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

He notes that voters often consider energy issues when deciding which candidate or party to support.

Reflecting on past elections, Dr. Asah-Asante highlights how power outages, known as “dumsor,” played a significant role in former President John Dramani Mahama’s defeat, with the NPP capitalizing on it as a campaign strategy.

He criticizes the government’s response to the current “dumsor”, emphasizing that citizens are feeling the consequences and urging leaders to acknowledge the problem honestly.

Dr. Asah-Asante stresses the importance of integrity and transparency in addressing governance issues, urging authorities to openly admit the challenges and demonstrate a commitment to resolving them.
