NDC criticizes govt for letting new ministers start duties without parliamentary approval
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the government for allowing the 24 designated ministers to start their official duties before receiving parliamentary approval.
Following a disagreement with the presidency over the anti-gay bill, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin adjourned the House indefinitely, further delaying the fate of the nominees.
Despite this, the designated ministers and deputies have already begun their work. For instance, Gender Minister Designate Darkoa Newman addressed the media on the alleged child marriage case in Nungua Gborbu Wulomo on Thursday, April 18.
Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, expressed concerns in an interview, describing the government’s actions as a violation of the rule of law.
Gbande criticized the government’s disregard for legal processes and public concerns, questioning the motivation behind appointing ministers without confidence to subject them to vetting.
He raised suspicions about potential incompetence and involvement in previous scandals.
