A suspected armed robbery incident targeting students from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani led to the unfortunate death of one student on Tuesday evening.
The attack occurred near Boffourkrom in the Sunyani West Municipality, leaving several students injured and traumatized.
The injured students received immediate medical attention at local health facilities and have been discharged.
Authorities confirmed the arrest of one suspect by the Sunyani police in connection with the incident.
In a press release issued by the University Relations Office, the University’s management expressed condolences to the family of the deceased student and acknowledged the gravity of the situation.
The attack occurred as Level 300 and 400 BSc Renewable Energy Engineering students were returning from a field trip at the Bui Power Authority (BPA) in the Banda District, where they were ambushed by unidentified assailants.
The University is actively providing counseling services to affected students and pledged to keep the public updated as the situation unfolds.
Additionally, the University urged nearby communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police for prompt action.
