In a bizarre incident, a woman named Erika Vieira Nunes brought a 68-year-old man in a wheelchair to a bank branch in a Rio suburb on Tuesday, attempting to secure a loan for him.

However, the man had already died hours before the attempted transaction, as confirmed by Brazilian police.

Security camera footage from the bank captured Nunes wheeling the deceased man into the branch and approaching the teller to request a loan of 17,000 reais ($3,250) on his behalf.

The video showed her holding a pen and trying to move the man’s hand to sign, despite his lack of response.

In the footage, Nunes can be heard addressing the man, saying, “Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign.”

She then mentioned that he wasn’t responding, stating, “He doesn’t say anything, that’s just how he is.” She even mentioned taking him to the hospital if he wasn’t feeling well.

However, bank staff grew suspicious as they noticed the man’s head continuously falling back, indicating his lifeless state.

They promptly alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and arrested Nunes on charges of fraud.

The deceased man’s body was subsequently taken to the morgue.
