South African footballer Luke Fleurs was tragically killed in a car hijacking, according to his team.

The incident occurred at a petrol station in the Johannesburg suburb of Florida on Wednesday night.

Reports indicate that the 24-year-old was waiting at the station when unknown gunmen approached him, demanding he exit the vehicle.

One suspect fled the scene with Fleurs’ car after shooting him once in the upper body.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the details, stating that the suspects used a firearm during the altercation.

Kaizer Chiefs, Fleurs’ team, expressed sorrow over his death and mentioned that authorities were handling the situation, with more information to follow.
