Nigerian Music Star Davido to Sue Over April Fool’s Joke
Afrobeats star Davido, has taken legal action following an April Fool’s prank that falsely claimed he had been arrested in Kenya for possessing cocaine on his private jet.
The 31-year-old singer, who recently concluded a successful East African tour, condemned the hoax as “extremely irresponsible” and clarified that he has never faced arrest anywhere in the world.
In a statement on social media, Davido emphasized, “I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world,” debunking the fake news circulated by Kenya’s K24 TV.
The fabricated story gained traction online, leading to a flurry of inquiries and calls to the artist.
The backlash prompted Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to denounce the false report, labeling it as “Fake News” on social media.
Davido reassured his fans that he completed his concerts in Uganda and Kenya without incident and has since returned to Nigeria.
Expressing his disapproval of spreading such serious allegations under the guise of April Fool’s, Davido announced that his legal team would pursue legal action against the media entities responsible for the misinformation.
While K24 TV has not responded to Davido’s intentions for legal recourse, some Kenyans have expressed hope for an amicable resolution to the situation.
