“We will not fall for Bawumia’s shenanigans the third time” – Sampson Asaki Awingobit
A statement released on Monday, March 25, signed by the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Sampson Asaki Awingobit, cautioned that they will not fall victim to the shenanigans of Vice President Bawumia for the third time.
The association has been following with keen interest, recent comments made by the Vice President which seems to criticize the operations of the Ghana Revenue Authority through the use of unhealthy practices in the collection of taxes from businesses to meet targets.
The Association pointed out that Dr. Bawumia has stayed quiet on this and other crucial issues for the past years, failing to urge the GRA to review its tax collection methods.
According to Sampson Asaki Awingobit in an interview on Spice FM, the government has scammed the association following several promises made.
“The government has scammed the association by giving some aspect of the taxes released in the first budget. Big promises were made in 2020 till date. We cried out in the last 2023 annual budget” , he lamented.
IEAG anticipates the Vice President to offer an apology to the business community for failing to fulfill his campaign commitments but rather engaging in last-minute populist gestures.
“We are not just seeking to hear from the vice President. I think the vice President should be able to apologize. He shouldn’t sit there and say he doesn’t understand. His office should be a respected office. I don’t know who advised him to make those claims”,Mr. Awingobit said.
