Three teenage boys detained in China over classmate’s brutal death

China

Three teenage boys in Handan, northern China, have been detained by authorities following the brutal death of their classmate, a 13-year-old boy named Wang, whose remains were found buried in an abandoned vegetable garden.

The case has stirred outrage and heated discussions about juvenile crime.

According to the victim’s father, Wang was bullied at school. The police are treating the case as intentional homicide and are investigating further.

All three detained teens are under 14, and Chinese law stipulates that those between 12 and 14 can face criminal prosecution only with approval from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.

Wang and his classmates are categorized as “left-behind children,” referring to children in China who reside with their grandparents in rural areas while their parents work in cities.

The incident has sparked widespread grief on social media platforms like Weibo and Douyin, with thousands of posts expressing condolences and demanding justice for the victim’s family.

The victim’s father shared details about his son’s disappearance, stating that Wang was last seen alive on March 10 before his phone was used to transfer money and turned off.

The father revealed that Wang had transferred money to one of his classmates before his death, indicating a possible motive related to bullying.

Initially denying involvement, the three suspects eventually led the police to the victim’s body. The motive behind the killing is still under investigation.

The case has drawn attention to issues of bullying and juvenile crime, with many calling for the perpetrators to be held accountable regardless of their age.
