Despite NLC plea, university senior staff strike persists

The Senior Staff Association of Public Universities is yet to make a decision regarding the termination of its strike, despite the National Labour Commission’s (NLC) plea to suspend the strike until a meeting with the government on February 1, 2024.

The union initiated the strike due to the government’s failure to address concerns regarding pensions and the alleged wrongful cancellation of overtime allowances.

Isaac Donkoh, the National Chairman of the association, conveyed to Citi News that a meeting scheduled within the week would determine whether they would end the strike or persist with it while engaging in discussions with the government.

“We are still on strike at the moment. So we are expecting that engagement, and we hope and pray that the engagement will yield some positive results. Unfortunately, we planned to meet last week Friday, but we couldn’t convene.”

“So we are planning to schedule a meeting within the week before we meet government. So we are yet to meet and decide,” he said.
