Wontumi summoned by Kumasi Traditional Council for remarks against Otumfuo.
The Kumasi Traditional Council has issued a summons to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), regarding alleged disrespectful remarks he made about the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Council has requested the NPP leadership to ensure Wontumi appears before them next Monday to address the comments reportedly made during the vetting of parliamentary aspirants in Manhyia South.
In response, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, and the party’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, accompanied by some regional party officials, visited the Manhyia Palace to discuss the matter.
Frimpong informed the Council that Chairman Wontumi is currently unwell and requested a two-week extension to facilitate his attendance.
Expressing outrage, members of the council, representing the Ashanti Kingdom’s clan, voiced their displeasure with Wontumi’s alleged remarks.
Some chiefs insisted that Wontumi must appear before the Council, even if it requires him to come in a wheelchair.
The Council, led by Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, also acknowledged comments made by legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw during a program on Wontumi Television.
The Council demanded the presence of Chairman Wontumi, Maurice Ampaw, and the management of Wontumi Radio and TV at the next Monday’s meeting.
In response, the NPP distanced itself from Maurice Ampaw’s alleged comments against the Chiefs, assuring the Council that the party would ensure Chairman Wontumi complies with the invitation.
