Financial hurdles delay arrival of 137,000 SHS 1 students in Western North

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) in the Western North Region has raised concerns over the delayed enrollment of approximately 137,000 newly admitted senior high school students.

Despite schools reopening for fresh SHS students on December 4, 2023, just over half of the total candidates placed in Western North Region schools have yet to commence classes.

This delay is attributed to financial constraints faced by parents, particularly those engaged in cocoa farming, according to Nana Amo Amankwah, the President of CHASS in the Western North Region.

Addressing the issue in an interview, Nana Amo Amankwah highlighted the financial challenges and urged the fresh students to prioritize reporting to school over fulfilling all items listed in the prospectus.

He emphasized that the government has made provisions for a smooth academic session, and while some schools have mattresses, students should not be deterred by not having every item on the prospectus.

Amankwah encouraged students to come with essential items like a towel and sponge, emphasizing the importance of starting the academic year promptly.
