GFA denies claims of fan physically assaulting Chris Hughton after AFCON loss

GFA

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has addressed allegations surrounding the reported physical assault on Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton by a disgruntled fan following Ghana’s loss to Cape Verde in the opening AFCON game on Sunday, January 14, 2024.

In the wake of Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde, fans were left disheartened. Social media circulated news that Hughton had been physically assaulted upon the team’s arrival at the hotel, with claims suggesting the intervention of diplomats and police involvement in apprehending the unidentified fan.

Citi Sports reached out to the GFA, they clarified that the alleged incident was exaggerated and blown out of proportion.

The association asserted that the situation was not as severe as portrayed, dispelling the notion that diplomatic intervention and police action were necessary.
