John Dramani Mahama, the former president and current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed deep sorrow and strong criticism over President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s three years of silence following the tragic loss of eight lives during the 2020 elections.

In a statement marking thirty-one years of Ghana’s Fourth Republic, Mahama condemned the alleged involvement of “thugs and rogue elements within the security agencies” that, according to him, disrupted the 2020 elections, resulting in the loss of eight lives.

Mahama found it unacceptable that President Akufo-Addo has not extended any words of sympathy to the grieving families, while those responsible for the deaths continue to live freely without facing consequences.

He emphasized that the use of such tactics during the elections tarnishes Ghana’s democratic credentials built over the past 32 years of constitutional rule.

Expressing concern about the lack of acknowledgment and justice, Mahama called for eternal vigilance among Ghanaians as they approach the upcoming elections.

He stressed that the government has a responsibility to ensure peaceful elections, emphasizing that even the loss of a single Ghanaian life should not be tolerated.

Mahama urged all Ghanaians to remain vigilant to prevent any abuses of the electoral system and ensure that the people’s free and fair choices prevail in the upcoming elections.
