Education Ministry praised for improving the school placement procedure

Education

Parents, guardians, and various stakeholders in the country have expressed their appreciation to Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum for the smooth conduct of this year’s Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) exercise, which has been incident-free.

These concerned Ghanaians commend the Education Minister, attributing the success of the self-placement and overall admission process to the effective measures implemented by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and the supporting agencies under the Ministry of Education. They note that the absence of recorded incidents reflects the prudence of the measures taken, resulting in a streamlined, efficient, and equitable exercise.

Mr. Appiah Kusi Adomako, the Director for the West Africa Regional Director of CUTS International (a research and policy think tank), expressed particular satisfaction with the smooth operations at the national resolution center. He praised parents and guardians for their composed behavior while seeking assistance on school placement issues, leading to the quick and smooth resolution of challenges.

While commending the process, Mr. Adomako urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to enhance public awareness regarding result release timelines and the reopening date for first-year students, enabling better planning for parents.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the sale of scratch cards for checking examination and placement results, considering it an additional burden on parents. He appealed to the Education Ministry and GES to reconsider this practice.

Mr. Adomako applauded parents for following the instructions of staff at resolution centers, simplifying the exercise and alleviating the concerns of anxious parents and guardians. A Kasoa-based businesswoman, Madam Comfort Nsiah, also praised the swift resolution of issues at the national resolution center in Accra, emphasizing the importance of parents encouraging their children to take their studies seriously to ensure the success of government and stakeholder investments in education. She urged the Minister to continue implementing positive policies for the nation’s educational transformation.

Background

The Education Ministry has for the past three years put in place strategic measures to ensure that the CSSPS becomes easy and fair for all students to have the opportunity to get placed in their school of choice.

This has led to improved management processes, ensuring that parents and guardians do not waste much time at the resolution centres for their placement issues to be resolved.
