NPP set to deliberate on the selection of a running mate for Bawumia today
Today, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council (NC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), currently in government, are scheduled to convene discussions regarding potential running mates for their flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The primary focus of the meeting will be on identifying individuals deemed suitable to effectively partner with Dr. Bawumia, contributing to the party’s success in the upcoming 2024 election.
Citi News sources suggest that figures like Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Energy Minister), Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (Education Minister), and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu (Majority Leader) are strongly under consideration.
The NEC is anticipated to deliberate on these candidates and formally present its recommendations to the National Council for approval. This process aligns with the NPP’s constitutional requirement, mandating the selection of a running mate 12 months before a major election in cases where the President is not the candidate.
Given President Akufo-Addo’s current absence from the country, Vice President Dr. Bawumia will preside over today’s pivotal meetings.
