Overloaded truck carrying over 200 passengers crashes in Nigeria, killing 25
A fatal accident in Nigeria’s Niger state claimed the lives of 25 individuals when a truck, en route from Sokoto state to Lagos, lost control and crashed on a busy expressway.
The federal road safety agency reported that the speeding and overloaded truck was carrying both passengers and cargo.
Over 200 passengers survived the accident, but some sustained severe injuries. Although the incident occurred on Tuesday night, authorities confirmed it on Wednesday.
President Bola Tinubu termed the accident a “harrowing tragedy” and instructed emergency response agencies to ensure adequate treatment for the injured survivors.
Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger state also issued a directive prohibiting trucks and other haulage vehicles from transporting passengers.
