Unidentified disease outbreak claims 12 lives in Uganda’s Kyotera District

disease

Ugandan health authorities are probing a mysterious disease outbreak responsible for the deaths of at least 12 individuals within a two-week period in Kyotera district, located in the central region.

The illness presents with skin rashes that progressively spread and widen, ultimately leading to the demise of patients within days.

Additionally, some affected individuals exhibited swollen limbs.

The Ministry of Health in Uganda has obtained fresh skin samples from one of the deceased patients at a local general hospital.

However, the findings from these samples have not yet been disclosed to the public.

According to local district health officials, some patients opted for treatment from traditional healers instead of seeking medical assistance from health facilities.

They highlighted the challenge in deterring patients from this course of action due to the unfamiliarity of the disease.
