Newly trained teachers demand action as posting delays drag on

More than 17,000 newly trained teachers across Ghana are still waiting to be posted, even though they have finished all their national duties, including national service and teacher licensing exams.
Speaking in a phone interview on Adzekyee Mu Nsem, the president of the Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) said they are tired and frustrated. Many of them completed their national service last year and passed the teacher licensure exams, but the Ghana Education Service (GES) has still not posted them.
“We don’t understand why we are still at home,” the group’s leaders said. “Our seniors were posted last year by May and started work in September. But now it’s almost the end of May, and nothing has been said.”
The group believes that the delay is due to a lack of financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance, which is needed before the GES can start recruiting.
“We have written letters to the Ministry of Education and even went there ourselves,” they added. “We were told the minister was not in the country. Now he’s back, but we still haven’t heard anything.”
According to the group, the National Service Secretariat has confirmed that all national service certificates have been sent to the regional offices. This means that the teachers are ready to be posted, but no official communication has come from the Ministry of Education or GES.
The delay is not only affecting the graduates but could also cause problems in schools across the country if it continues. Many of the affected teachers say they are stressed and uncertain about their future.
“If we don’t hear anything soon, we may have to take action,” the spokesperson warned.
The coalition is asking the government to quickly give financial clearance and open the GES recruitment portal so they can be posted in time before the new academic term begins.
