Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is set to present the 2024 Annual Budget and Economic Policy to Parliament on November 15, 2023.
Before the presentation, there are calls to cut government spending to address the struggling economy. CEO of Dalex Finance, Kenneth Thompson, warned of a possible economic downturn in 2024 if the government continues its current pattern of high expenditures.
In an interview, Thompson stressed the importance of protecting the poor while discussing potential spending cuts, focusing on areas like health, education, infrastructure, and food.
Additionally, the Finance Minister confirmed that the 2024 budget will consider long-term relief for victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage. After visiting affected communities, Ofori-Atta expressed the government’s commitment to providing more relief, beyond what has already been distributed.
He emphasized that the budget will not just be about numbers but a genuine response to the needs on the ground.
