Vivo Energy launches ‘STOP, THINK & DRIVE’ Road Safety Campaign in Takoradi to save lives and improve wellbeing of drivers
In a determined effort to champion safer road practices, Vivo Energy Ghana, the leading distributor of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants, has unveiled its ‘STOP, THINK & DRIVE’ Road Safety campaign. This initiative aims not only to raise awareness but to foster a cultural shift toward safe driving behavior.
The campaign serves as a potent reminder for all road users to pause, consider the consequences, and make responsible decisions behind the wheel, with the ultimate mission of reducing road accidents, saving lives, and safeguarding communities.
The ‘STOP, THINK & DRIVE’ Road Safety campaign is designed to contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 3.6, which seeks to halve the global number of deaths and injuries resulting from road traffic crashes by 2030.
This annual campaign, organized by Vivo Energy Ghana in partnership with the National Road Safety Authority, focuses on providing defensive training for commercial drivers and motorcyclists. Its overarching goal is to enhance road user behavior and reduce the risks associated with road accidents.
Shirley Tony Kum, Corporate Communications Manager for Vivo Energy Ghana Limited, spoke to Beach FM at the launch of the 2023 ‘STOP, THINK & DRIVE’ Road Safety campaign in Takoradi on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
She emphasized the importance of the campaign, stating, “Vivo Energy is committed to its customers, communities, staff, and everyone, and together with its partners, will do everything to promote their wellbeing and ensure their growth.”
Shirley Tony Kum also highlighted the innovative addition of the “Fit To Drive Wellness Campaign,” which complements the core ‘STOP, THINK & DRIVE’ campaign.
This wellness initiative is aimed at evaluating the overall health and well-being of commercial drivers, recognizing that their physical and mental condition plays a crucial role in road safety. Vivo Energy has engaged relevant stakeholders and agencies to provide comprehensive training aligned with government road safety plans.
“Fit To Drive Wellness Campaign was launched to complement the ‘Stop Think & Drive’ campaign. This looks at the total well-being of our drivers, so Vivo Energy decided to bring some stakeholders and agencies to assist. Road safety is one of our key corporate social responsibilities and we believe that these drivers need some form of assistance and that’s why we have partnered with the relevant agencies and regulators to train them in line with government’s plan”, Shirley Tony Kum added.
