Mahama reaffirms intent to consolidate some ministries if he wins 2024 elections

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has restated his intention to consolidate some ministries in the country if his party emerges victorious in the 2024 elections.

Mahama believes there are redundant ministries with overlapping functions in the current New Patriotic Party administration, which he considers wasteful and a strain on the country’s finances.

He aims to merge such ministries to streamline government expenditure.

During a meeting with the leadership of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Accra, he emphasized the NDC’s commitment to eliminating what they view as unnecessary ministries.

He cited examples like the Aviation Ministry, Railways Ministry, Transport Ministry, Local Government Ministry, and Business Development Ministry as candidates for consolidation to improve efficiency and reduce wastage.

Mahama’s goal is to enhance accountability, reduce institutional borrowing, and ensure compliance with public procurement rules.
