A cross-section of Ghanaians in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis says it will be impossible for the New Patriotic Party, NPP, to break the 8 with Dr Bawumia as their flagbearer.
According to them, Dr. Bawumia, being a Vice President in Akuffo Addo’s government, has not contributed enough to ensure the betterment of citizens; thus, they cannot repose their confidence in him to do anything different when given the power in 2024.
Dr Bawumia garnered 118,210 votes, which represents 61.47 percent, to become the flagbearer of the party in the just-ended November 4 presidential primaries.
According to them, Dr Bawumia, being the Vice President, has failed to make the lives of Ghanaians better as promised in their 2016 and 2020 manifestos.
“Bawumia and the NPP cannot break the 8. Personally, I’m disappointed in them because the kind of belief I had in them is not meeting my expectations.”
Breaking the 8 will be difficult, considering the 8 years Ghanaians have experienced. The tough times we’ve been through, it won’t be easy for him. If he’s able to break the 8, then its the will of God.”
However, a local governance expert, Bernard Oduro Tachie, says Dr. Bawumia’s assertion that he is the best man for the job and the only challenger to former President John Mahama will be determined by how best he can convince Ghanaians to change the current state of the economy.
