Nigerian Nollywood actor, Mr. Ibu’s leg amputated, family says
Family members of the popular Nigerian comic actor, John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, have announced that his leg was amputated due to medical reasons.
According to a statement on his Instagram page, doctors had no other option but to amputate the limb to save his life. The family has accepted this as his new reality.
John Okafor, aged 62, is a well-known actor in Nollywood, having appeared in numerous films such as Keziah, 9 Wives, and Mr Ibu in London.
The cause of the illness that led to his leg amputation has not been disclosed by his family.
The statement mentions that he has already undergone seven rounds of surgery and requires one more.
Reports in Nigerian media suggest that former Senate President Bukola Saraki has contributed to covering some of Okafor’s medical expenses.
The family is now seeking financial assistance from fans and well-wishers to cover the remaining expenses, without specifying the amount.
It is not uncommon for Nollywood actors to make such appeals, as healthcare costs in Nigeria can be high.
Pay rates in the Nollywood industry vary, with leading actors earning substantial amounts, while smaller roles may be unpaid.
