Fifa Bans Former Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales for Three Years

 ban

Former Spanish Football Association president Luis Rubiales has been handed a three-year ban from all football-related activities by Fifa.

This ban comes after an incident in which Rubiales kissed forward Jenni Hermoso on the lips following Spain’s Women’s World Cup final win over England.

Initially provisionally banned by Fifa, Rubiales had refused to resign but eventually stepped down in September.

Regarding the kiss, Rubiales claimed it was “mutual” and “consensual,” while Hermoso disagreed, leading to her filing a legal complaint.

Fifa confirmed that the case pertained to the “events that occurred during the final of the Fifa Women’s World Cup on 20 August 2023, for which Mr. Rubiales had been provisionally suspended for an initial period of 90 days.”

According to Fifa, Rubiales has 10 days to request a motivated decision, which may subsequently be published on legal.fifa.com.

The decision could be appealed before the Fifa appeal committee.

Fifa emphasized its unwavering commitment to respecting and safeguarding the integrity of all individuals and upholding the basic principles of decent conduct.
