Alleged military attack in Garu leaves over 50 people hospitalized

Garu

Alleged military personnel in the Upper East Region are accused of assaulting residents in Garu, leading to the hospitalization of more than fifty people.

This assault is said to be in retaliation for an attack on National Security operatives by a vigilante group in Garu. The military operation, conducted in the early hours of Saturday, affected numerous individuals, including a six-year-old boy.

According to the local Assembly Member, Bartolomeo Asore Azumbil, about fifty-three people have been hospitalized. Some have been treated and discharged, while others didn’t seek medical attention.

In response to these reports, the Ministry of National Security clarified that the joint operation with the Ghana Armed Forces aimed to seize weapons used in the vigilante group’s attack on October 24 in Garu. Several suspects have been arrested.

The Ministry condemned acts that intimidate and harm State Security personnel, emphasizing the importance of upholding Ghana’s laws and avoiding actions that jeopardize security operations.
