“Because of arrogance, they didn’t hand over their petition to my rep” -Okyere Darko-Mensah responds to #SekondiTakoradiDeservesBetter protesters’ concerns

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has responsed to the #SekondiTakoradiDeservesBetter protesters who are planning to stage another demonstration due to their inability to personally submit their petition to him.

He explained that their petition request had only reached him on Monday, and he needed to be out of town, so he designated a representative from the Coordinating Council to receive it on his behalf.

Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah expressed bewilderment at their refusal to hand over the petition to his appointed representative, who holds an official position in the Coordinating Council.

“Their petition request just came on Monday, and I needed to be out of town so I asked someone to receive it on my behalf. But because of arrogance, they didn’t hand it over to my representative who is an officer of the Coordinating Council. I wonder why they did that, but it’s okay.”

The protesters’ decision to stage a demonstration comes from their perception that the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, did not recognize or respect them when he delegated someone to receive their petition on his behalf at the Western Regional Coordinating Council.

The demonstration, which commenced on the morning of Friday, October 27, 2023, sought to draw attention to the neglect of critical development concerns within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

Participants in the demonstration marched through the main streets of the city to the Regional Coordinating Council, where they had expected to meet with the Regional Minister. However, they were disappointed to find that he was not present to receive them, leading to frustration among the demonstrators who believed that “the Regional Minister was not ready to receive us.”
