Operators Of Hospitality Centers May Face Prosecution For Failure To Pay 1 Percent Levy

The Western Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Henry Yeledour, says hospitality institutions face prosecution if they fail to pay the 1 percent Covid Levy.

According to the Regional Director, the exercise is taking place at Tarkwa and its environs to ensure the laws are adhered to.

“There are instances of prosecution and the law says when you do not pay you face it.
We’ve locked up some shops and they have to do follow-ups.

It is when you prove difficult that we take you through the legal process and ensure you pay the penalty.
We are currently in Tarkwa and its adjoining areas.”

He adds that before a hospitality institution is established, owners should consult the Ghana Tourism Authority, GTA on the modalities of operation.

He disclosed that seven hotels and a pub have been closed since the beginning of the exercise.

He was speaking in an interview on Beach FM with the Western Echo Show host, Arafat Musah.

Mr. Yeleduor said, ” The law says before you start contact the Authority first to be guided on the room orientation.”
