Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu pleads with NPP leadership to engage Alan Kyerematen

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, has voiced a compelling plea to the leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) – to extend an olive branch to their former party stalwart, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.

This plea comes in response to Mr. Kyerematen’s recent resignation from the NPP and his subsequent declaration to lead an independent movement in the forthcoming 2024 elections.

Alan Kyerematen, a seasoned politician with a longstanding history in the NPP, made waves in the political arena when he decided to part ways with the party that he had been affiliated with for several years.

He officially made his exit on September 25, 2023, and shortly thereafter revealed his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections.

This move was driven by concerns about alleged intimidation targeting his supporters and his perception of the party being increasingly influenced by a select few.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, recognizing the gravity of the situation, stressed the necessity of engaging Mr. Kyerematen in discussions to explore the possibility of his return to the NPP.

He expressed his hope that such a reconciliation could pave the way for a more united and harmonious political landscape.

“I think that every effort must be made, even if it’s a one percent possibility, let’s see what will come out of it. We are talking about Alan’s situation, where we are saying that let’s still engage if he will come back. To now go into specifics will be a difficulty, it may hamper the reconciliation I’m suggesting. It’s possible to bring him back,” the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs opined in an interview with 3news

This surprising development has prompted significant dialogue and speculation within Ghana’s political circles.

The departure of a prominent party member like Alan Kyerematen, with his rich history and diverse contributions to the NPP, has raised questions about the party’s internal dynamics and the broader political landscape.

The Majority Leader’s suggestion of a potential reconciliation reflects an eagerness within the NPP to heal rifts and maintain a united front in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
