Renal Patients Association appeals to Korle-Bu to reopen Renal Unit

Renal

The Renal Patients Association has urgently appealed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to reopen its renal unit for outpatient services, which has been closed to outpatients since May 22, 2023.

Patients have had to seek dialysis services elsewhere due to this closure. The association claims that the hospital authorities cited a shortage of renal consumables and the pending parliamentary approval of new pricing as reasons for the unit’s closure.

Kojo Ahenkorah, the association’s spokesperson, expressed concern about patients being left with no options and urged the hospital to reopen the unit for outpatient care.

In related news, the Ghana Kidney Association has announced that it is actively engaging with relevant authorities to address concerns about the cost of renal treatment and make dialysis more affordable for all. The outcomes of these discussions will be disclosed in the near future.
