Residents of Ashaiman issues a two-month ultimatum to govt to repair the town’s roads

The Coalition of Ashaiman Residents has issued a two-month ultimatum to the government to commence road rehabilitation in the Ashaiman area.

This ultimatum comes in the wake of their protests, which aimed to draw attention to the deteriorating road conditions.

Representing the residents, Freeman Tsekpo, the assemblyman for the Nii Komieteh Electoral area, handed over a petition to Ashaiman’s Chief Executive Officer, Albert Boakye Okyere. Tsekpo conveyed the residents’ intention to stage a demonstration at the Ministry of Roads and Highways if road repair works do not begin within the specified two-month period.

“We ask as a matter of urgency for the government to instruct all contractors that have been awarded road contracts in Ashaiman Municipality to come to the site and work on fixing our roads. We demand that the following major sections of the roads be fixed immediately,” Tsekpo stated.

The mentioned road sections include the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly Traffic Light to Presby section of the Ashaiman Agyei Kwadwo main road, the main market to Lebanon section of the Ashaiman overhead to Zenu road, Ashaiman Newtown junction to Afariwa junction road, and community 22 to Lebanon inner roads.

Tsekpo emphasized that if no progress is observed within two calendar months, another protest march will be organized, this time heading to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

Ashaiman’s Member of Parliament (MP), Ernest Norgbey, expressed concern over the government’s inaction, accusing them of neglecting the residents’ plea for better roads.

Norgbey highlighted the severe damage to vehicles and infrastructure due to the poor road conditions and urged the government to prioritize the situation for the sake of Ashaiman’s residents.
