Legal Practitioner Educates Public On The Importance of Will-Writing

A will is a legally enforceable declaration of how a person wishes his or her property to be shared after death.

However, many people put off writing a will.

They believe it will be costly or difficult, that it is unnecessary because their possessions will automatically pass to their spouse or children, or simply to avoid thinking about their death.

A legal manager of Owusu Ankomah, Arvoh-Mensah Dzigba, and Associates, Lawyer Pamela Avoh-Mensah, has underscored the importance of writing a will.

According to her, writing a will allows an individual to have control over what happens to their property, money, and belongings after their passing.

” It’s an important thing for anyone at all provided you are above the age of 18 and of a sound mind, you can make a will.

Sometimes some people shy away from the subject because of the perception. There are so many misconceptions about wills. Some think if you make a will it means they are calling for their death, it is a misconception.

The benefits of making a will include the fact that you know what happens to your property, and then you have the opportunity to leave your estate to specific people,” she said.

As required by law, there are processes that an individual must follow to get a will documented which would be deemed as valid.

Lawyer Pamela Arvoh-Mensah outlined the process in an interview on the Blueprint show on Beach FM.

Lawyer Arvoh-Mensah mentioned “You cannot just make a will because you have property, and you want to distribute it. It follows a particular requirement, and you must appear to adhere to those provisions, other than the will can or may be invalid.”
