The police have initiated a manhunt for two siblings accused of allegedly murdering a 60-year-old woman, Musah Azaratu Poanaa, in Janga, West Mamprusi Municipality, North East Region.

The victim was reportedly shot dead following accusations of witchcraft and responsibility for misfortunes in the community.

The suspects, identified as Sumani Abila and Fataw Sumani, accused the deceased of causing their father’s illness based on advice from a soothsayer.

Subsequently, they forcefully entered her house, dragged her from her room, and shot her with a single-barrel gun. Despite being rushed to Walewale Municipal Hospital, doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.

A manhunt has been launched by the North East Regional Police Command to locate the suspects who are currently evading capture.

Musah Asana, the daughter of the deceased, recounted the incident, stating that the two siblings entered their house, fired warning shots, and accused her mother of attempting to harm their father.

North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria, has condemned the act, describing it as barbaric and a violation of human rights.

He has called for a swift investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice and urged residents to refrain from such acts.
