Cairo University employee shot dead after allegedly rejecting marriage proposal
In what the Egyptian media is referring to as the most recent case of a gender-based murder, a female employee of Cairo University was shot and killed by a former coworker.
According to reports, the suspect proposed marriage to Nourhan Hussein, who reportedly declined.
The suspect was later located in a region west of the city, where he allegedly killed himself using the same weapon that was used in the murder.
In a separate incident in Cairo earlier this week another woman was killed by a former fiancé.
According to rights organizations, there were over a thousand incidents of violence against women in Egypt last year, including 300 homicides.
