Police are actively searching for Okada rider suspected of poisoning his girlfriend
In the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region, police are currently conducting a manhunt for a 22-year-old okada rider, referred to as Akooko. He is suspected of poisoning his 17-year-old girlfriend, Matilda Dankwa, who recently completed her Junior High School (JHS) education in the Koransang area.
The relationship between the suspect and the deceased took a tragic turn when Matilda became pregnant and refused to terminate the pregnancy, despite the suspect’s request to do so.
On a fateful Monday, Akooko picked up Matilda on his motorcycle, and shortly after, she was discovered with foam emanating from her mouth, leading the police to suspect poisoning.
Upon visiting the crime scene, the police transported Matilda’s body to the Suhum government hospital morgue and initiated an investigation to locate the fugitive suspect, the okada rider, Akooko, who is currently evading capture.
Ransford Norvor, the Assemblyman for Koransang, confirmed the incident, revealing that Matilda had recently graduated from school. He also mentioned that an eyewitness reported that, around 4 pm on the day of the incident, Akooko had picked Matilda up from her home, and news of her death arrived just 30 minutes later.
According to the eyewitness, Matilda was pregnant, but Akooko had wanted her to terminate the pregnancy, and when she refused, it is alleged that he poisoned her. The exact circumstances are yet to be determined by the police, as the investigation is ongoing.
The police are urging the public to come forward with any information that may aid in the apprehension of the suspect.
