Despite warnings from the police, a gathering of hundreds of protesters took place at the 37 Trotro Station in Accra on Thursday, September 21, 2023, to participate in the OccupyJubilee House protest.

The protesters are advocating for various reforms, including a reduction in the cost of living, an end to corruption, and enhanced governance.

Although the police had secured a court injunction prohibiting the protest, the demonstrators defied this injunction and attempted to march to Jubilee House, the official residence of the President of Ghana.

In response, the police arrested several protesters, including some organizers.

Approximately 50 members of the group are currently in police custody at the regional headquarters in Accra Central. The organizers assert that they never received any court notice, which led them to gather at 37 on Thursday morning to march to Jubilee House.

Law enforcement officers were present at the assembly point with buses and armed personnel to apprehend the protesters. Notably among the arrested individuals is the #FixtheCountry convener, Oliver Barker Vormawor.

The OccupyJubilee House protest represents the most recent in a series of demonstrations against the government. In recent months, there has been a growing sense of public dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living and what is perceived as the government’s inadequate response to the people’s concerns.

The government has defended its track record, asserting that it is making every effort to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

However, the protesters argue that the government’s efforts are insufficient, and they believe that the people of Ghana deserve better.
