Essikado Community Faced With Robbery Cases

The Assembly Member of the Essikado West Electoral Area, John Stephen Abban has confirmed the theft of a 30-yard cable on the premises of Nana Kobina Nketisa M.A Basic School at Sekondi.

Speaking to Beach News Room, Mr Abban disclosed that there have been records of theft in the school where learning materials get stolen.

He explained that the school authority had reported the incident to the Essikado Police, and attributed the continuous thievery in the school to the absence of security personnel.

Mr Abban noted that the government has halted the deployment of security personnel into public schools and that schools cannot afford the services of private security agencies.

He hinted of plans to get the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) to assist in getting safety for the school.

” I was informed by the Headmaster about the theft of 30-yard of electrical cables from the school. The government is supposed to deploy security into the school to secure properties but such has been seized. We together with the PTA will consider bringing to employ the services of security personnel to safeguard the school, ” He said.

Mr Abban also mentioned that people have been battling petty theft in the community.

Meanwhile, Maame Awortwe, a resident shared an experience where her soup and gas cylinder got stolen.

She believes that the closed season is a contributing factor.

“Robbery in this area is a common practice. The closed fishing season makes it worse now. We are not safe here. They steal anything including cooking foods,” Madam Awortwe mentioned.
