The Twin Cities in Sustainable Partnership project is a project being implemented in the cities of Sekondi-Takoradi and Palermo Municipality in Italy.
The project is a 3-year initiative being sponsored by the European Union with a 3 million grant which is centred on urban governance and how the capacity of the STMA can be built in its various multi-level urban governance arms to be able to properly manage the city.
The project is also looking at how to enhance the involvement of women and vulnerable groups in the governance process and tackle urban resilience within the metropolis.
The project is being implemented by the city authority, with other partners seeking to enhance urban governance within the metropolis.
In an interview with the media, the Governance and Social Accountability Officer for the project, Aziz Mahmoud said, social inclusion is all about capacity building, and as part of interventions they are building the capacity of all actors in urban governance.
Mr Mahmoud also said, that currently, the partners involved in the project include an organization that is directly under the ambit of the gender ministry ie, the Social Welfare and Community Development as well as the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.
They are also looking forward to going into partnership with the Legal Aid Commission on how women, children, and young girls can ask for assistance about issues concerning gender gender-based, sexual exploration, and hazardous work.
Mr Mahmoud noted that with the whole project, the European Union is looking at how the project creates opportunities for vulnerable youth including women so that they become productive members of society. He said the project has a series of livelihood projects that will help young men and women stay in Sekondi-Takoradi and be more productive.
