Youth Encouraged To Take Advantage Of Skills Training Under Twin Cities In Sustainable Partnership Projects

The Programs Coordinator for the Twin Cities In Sustainable Partnership Project, TCSPP, Isaac Aidoo is entreating to take advantage of the initiative and level up in becoming empowered to lead themselves.

At a press briefing in Sekondi, he touted the progress of the project initiative which is funded by the European Union, EU but implemented in the cities of Sekondi-Takoradi and Parlemo, Italy.

According to him, most of the youth are not exhibiting any interest in the program, especially in the agriculture sector.

As part of the program, youth will receive skill training in the construction of bio-digester, plastic recycling, and amongst others.

Giving an insight into the program, Mr Aidoo stated that about 150 youths are targeted to be trained in plastic recycling, and the construction of household toilets and eco-friendly ovens.

He noted that with the construction of the household toilet about 500 households are targeted especially those around the coastal areas to curb the issue of open defecation.

The Twin Cities in Sustainable Partnership Project is a 3-year project being implemented in the cities of Sekondi-Takoradi (Ghana) and Palermo (Italy) funded by the European Union (EU).

It is being implemented under the EU’s “Local Authorities: Partnerships for Sustainable Cities Programme” launched in 2019.

The global objective of the Programme is to Promote Integrated Urban Development through Partnerships built among Local Authorities to address Sustainable Urban Development, focusing on capacity building and upscaling of long-lasting partnerships and cooperation through peer-to-peer exchanges.

The project aims at enhancing the City Authorities’ capacity to respond to perennial challenges of urban sprawl, climate change, unemployment, poverty, exclusion, and the unprecedented new realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specifically, the project is geared towards enhancing urban management, and climate resilience, fostering transnational cooperation, and boosting socio-economic development through employment generation and valorizing the cultural heritage of the Twin-cities of Sekondi-Takoradi (Ghana) and Palermo (Italy).
