Police takes two suspects into custody in connection with the murder in Anwiankwanta
Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the alleged rape and murder of an 18-year-old apprentice in Anwiankwanta, a locale situated within the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive, Kwaku Kyei Baffour, disclosed these developments after chairing a municipal security meeting regarding the incident. It has been reported that these two individuals had interacted with the victim shortly before her tragic death.
He expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation conducted by the Ghana Police Service and their dedication to bringing the culprits to justice.
“They can run, but they cannot hide,” the Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive stated. The lifeless body of Georgina Agyemang, the victim, was discovered in an unfinished building just a short distance from her home.
Witnesses reported that her body was found partially undressed and displayed visible injuries, prompting suspicions of a potential rape and murder.
Frank Awuah, the assembly member for the area, acknowledged the growing apprehension and unease within the community. He emphasized the importance of implementing security measures to enhance safety in the area.
“About three months ago, the same incident happened where a three-month-old baby was killed, a mother and a baby were also killed. So, it has been occurring, something that we need to find a solution to. Yes, we are living in fear because…people have been moving from this area to the main town. They are in fear, they are afraid that it will happen again.”
“For security service, we don’t meet the international standard as a country, so we need to support the security services as citizens by volunteering,” he opined.
