According to ace broadcaster, Ken Addy, in recent times there have been too many radio stations in the system, resulting in the employment of just “anybody” in the name of “broadcasting”, making the profession less valuable.
Ken Addy, who has been in the media space for about 23 years now, laments the fact that, the media these days has been made cheap to the point where anyone can emerge and call themselves a presenter.
“Look, there are too many radio stations these days and that’s one of our biggest problems.
There are countless radio stations everywhere and all of them can’t get sponsorship. These radio stations must employ workers of course and that’s why we have plenty of undeserving presenters. Definitely opening a radio station means automatically, you’re going to employ a presenter and since you don’t have enough money, you’re going to employ within your means.
This speaks so low of the media and has made the media lose some value”, he enraged.
Making this known to Nana Ama Shancy on Spice FM’s OFIE ne fie, Mr Addy also disclosed that there’s nothing like broadcasting here in Ghana. According to him, no one has been able to set a law to govern broadcasting and even if there is, it hasn’t been enforced in any way.
“For me, there’s nothing like broadcasting in Ghana. Nobody has been able to set a broadcasting law and so everyone can do whatever they want all in the name of broadcasting”, he declared.
Ken Addy, who is now 70 years old and has the ambition of setting a record in broadcasting, revealed how hurt he gets sometimes staring at problems the media faces without solutions.
