Bad Road Affecting Socio-Economic Development In New Amanful – Residents
Drivers and residents at the New Amanful in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region say they are dissatisfied with the nature of their road, despite numerous complaints made to authorities.
This morning, they held a peaceful demonstration to deepen the calls on relevant authorities to fix the only road that leads to Funko and other communities in that enclave, which is now unmotorable.
Some of the protesters speaking to Beach News threatened to boycott elections if nothing was done about the road.
According to them, the road has been in a bad state for too long, which affects the socio-economic development of the community.
A fish trader, Mame Praba at Takoradi narrated how drivers always avoid using the road due to it’s bad nature.
“I can stand in a queue for a long time, waiting to board a vehicle home, but due to the nature of the road, no vehicle wants to use the stretch. I sell fresh fish in Takoradi. No fixing of the road, no vote in New Amanful. “
David, a resident and a taxi driver at New Amanful said, a woman died in her vehicle whilst being transported to the hospital. The deplorable nature of the road prevented them from reaching the hospital on time. He continued, ” The authorities have turned a deaf ear to our consistent pleas to fix the road for us. What is our crime here?”
They called out some of the companies situated in the enclave for failing to help repair the road since they also access it.
Authorities are therefore called to immediately fix the road.
